SIFs boost profits by selling stock

27.01.2005, 00:00 6

SIF Transilvania has made the highest net profits of all the five financial investment companies (SIFs), with 21.4 million euros (813bn ROL). This profit equates to around 1,500 ROL per share. SIF Muntenia, which had been lagging far behind the other SIFs in terms of profits, managed to catch up in the final month of last year after selling 5.1% in Banc Post for 9.6 million euros. While SIF Muntenia had created 210bn ROL (5 million euros) in net profits at the end of November, by the end of December this same indicator was over 100% higher. SIF Muntenia concluded last year with 12.1 million-euro (461bn ROL) profits. SIF Transilvania's hefty profits were primarily due to the sale of its interest in Rompetrol Rafinare (Petromidia). It sold its 9.7% stake in the company in successive trading on the Bucharest Stock Exchange. SIF Transilvania and SIF Muntenia were the last of the five to file their preliminary data for FY2004. Investors in SIF shares made quite a lot of money on the stock exchange, with the BET-FI, the index that gauges SIF performance, gaining over 30% since the beginning of this year. ZF
