Romaqua Group, the largest mineral water producer on the local market, has budgeted investments worth approximately 31 million euros in the construction of a brewery in Sebes, (Alba county) with a production capacity of over 1 million hectolitres per year.
"To begin with, the Romaqua brewery will employ 220 people, but their number will increase in the future," stated the groupes representatives.
Once the shareholders have approved the project, the investment in the new factory will start this year and it could be completed by the following year, according to Romaqua representatives. According to the same sources, the first part of the investment in the new project, worth 18-20 million euros, will be made in 2007.
"Taking into account the European average level of beer consumption, the local market still has potential (for growth i.e.). The companiese communication efforts as well as our innovation and product variety will inevitably boost beer consumption. The domestic beer market is extremely competitive and is characterised by a fierce competition," said Adrian Teslovan, the marketing manager of Romaqua Group.
The greenfield project, through which the producer of Borsec will enter the beer market, will be financed through credit worth 31 million euros contracted from BCR, which will be voted on by the Romaqua shareholderse towards the end of March.
Other investments worth approximately 5 million euros will be dedicated to the bottling facilities for Borsec and Stanceni mineral waters, Giusto, Brifcor and Quick Cola soft drinks this year, according to the data provided by Romaqua.
The Romaqua Group, a Romanian company, derived a turnover worth 71 million euros last year, up by 45% against the results posted in 2005, due to the rise in the sales of soft drinks and coffee, as well as to the increase in mineral water production.
The groupes representatives estimate the sales will rise by 30% this year to approximately 92 million euros.
The investments worth approximately 10 million euros made by the group last year were mainly in the mineral water sector.
Romaqua obtained a loan worth 8.23 million euros from BCR at the end of last year, used by the group to finance the expansion of the production capacity at the mineral water plants based in Bucharest and Busteni.
