The Romanian mobile phone market is expected to exceed 300 million euros this year, with leading retailers estimating to sell 4 million terminals. In the first six months of this year, the average price of a mobile phone in Romania stood at 75 euros. The average price for a mobile phone did not fall below 240 RON, with the highest price registered in January (274 RON - 81.2 euros), and the lowest in July (243 RON - 72 euros), according to a survey conducted by the market research company GfK, cited by Proton Technologies, a retailer and distributor of mobile phones and GSM accessories, with a business estimated at 49 million euros this year. Proton, which derives almost 60% of revenues from the its stores in Moldavia, retails mobile phones at a price below the national average, however its prices have been increasing since the beginning of this year.
