The number of shopping centres in Romania has now exceeded 30, with an overall lettable surface area of 1 million square metres, after nine new projects were launched this year, reveals a ZF analysis, based on market data. The ten biggest shopping centres alone, which include retail parks and malls, have a cumulated lettable space of almost 500,000 square metres. The biggest mall is Polus Center in Cluj, with almost 60,000 square metres, while the Baneasa project incorporates the biggest retail park, which, in turn, includes a shopping centre with 55,000 square metres of lettable space. Recent openings have contributed significantly to the increase in the number of large shopping centres, after seven out of the ten shopping centres with an area of at least 40,000 square metres opened in the last 12 months.
