One quarter of new flats postponed for delivery until 2009

The number of new flats that will be delivered this year has gone down from 8,000 to approximately 6,000, reveals a ZF analysis, based on data collected for the first edition of the Ansambluri Rezidentiale (Residential Complexes) yearbook, published by BUSINESS Magazin. Whereas in the first edition of the yearbook, in October 2007, developers of the featured complexes announced 8,000 housing units, the March edition shows the number of homes announced for completion in 2008 has gone down by 2,000 units. The difference is due to the postponement of the delivery of entire projects until 2009, such as InCity Residences (502 flats in Vitan) and Curtea Domneasca (110 houses in Domnesti) as well to the delay in completion, or partial completion, of projects developed over several stages. Therefore, only two of the four blocks of flats in the Planorama complex (developed in Colentina) will be delivered this year, even though developers had announced the completion of three buildings, whilst only two of the seven blocks of flats in Edenia Titan will be delivered in 2008. However, in the event that the 6,000 new homes scheduled for delivery this year will actually open on time, this will set a new record on Bucharest's residential market, considering the number of flats completed in the capital over the last four years has not exceeded an annual rate of 3,000, according to National Statistics Institute (INS) data.
