Musetescu: No privatisation based on ethnical criteria

14.06.2001, 00:00 8

Privatisation minister Ovidiu Musetescu on Tuesday dismissed allegations made by PDSR (Party of Social Democracy) senator Adrian Paunescu before the Senate plenum about him wanting to bestow ownership over Sovata resort to the Hungarian State.

The controlling interests in the resort were bought by Salina Invest, a Hungarian-held company.

Musetescu defended the privatisation trying to make peace: "You can rest assured that I and my colleagues in the Privatisation Authority (APAPS) had no intention to turn the national wealth over to anybody, not to mention privatising something based on ethnical criteria. I can assure you, Senator, that neither are we toying with billions lei in wealth, nor are we down with the "sale-at-all-cost" frenzy, and that we will immediately notify you about any actions to be further taken and any other important elements for the future of the Balneoclimaterica Sovata Company."

Musetescu specified that the sale of the 962,856 shares accounting for 82.170% in the resort's share capital observed every legal stipulation in force and cared to detail the steps taken before the signing of the contract with Salina Invest.

The privatisation process began at the Territorial Department in Brasov, considering the Balneoclimaterica Sovata is a medium-sized company.
