Hidroenergetica and Electra, the two companies through which thestate is trying to reorganise the national energy generationsystem, will become operational on the first day of next year, sixmonths later than initially announced.
Mihai David, the general manager of Hidroelectrica, the biggestenergy producer domestically, who is also in charge with thesetting up of Hidroenergetica, says Romania needs two powerfulenergy companies that can compete with all kinds of "republics"like CEZ, E.ON, Enel, groups that have managed to build upsignificant positions domestically, on equal footing.
Hidroelectrica head says that groups like CEZ, often given as anexample for the domestic market, are not a model in themselves, buthave reached this position as they enjoyed a favourablecontext.
As for the investments Hidroenergetica needs, David estimates themat somewhere around 3-4bn euros over a five-year interval. Themoney will come from public-private partnerships, in whichinvestors will not hold more than 50%, from banks and ownfunds.
