Mihai David, Hidroelectrica: CEZ is not a model
Hidroenergetica and Electra, the two companies through which the
state is trying to reorganise the national energy generation
system, will become operational on the first day of next year, six
months later than initially announced.
Mihai David, the general manager of Hidroelectrica, the biggest
energy producer domestically, who is also in charge with the
setting up of Hidroenergetica, says Romania needs two powerful
energy companies that can compete with all kinds of "republics"
like CEZ, E.ON, Enel, groups that have managed to build up
significant positions domestically, on equal footing.
Hidroelectrica head says that groups like CEZ, often given as an
example for the domestic market, are not a model in themselves, but
have reached this position as they enjoyed a favourable
context.
As for the investments Hidroenergetica needs, David estimates them
at somewhere around 3-4bn euros over a five-year interval. The
money will come from public-private partnerships, in which
investors will not hold more than 50%, from banks and own
funds.
