Merck adopts cautious sales policy

13.07.2005, 19:56 10

The American pharmaceuticals giant, Merck Sharp & Dohme (MSD), has posted a slight increase in sales for the Romanian market over the first half of the year due to its cautious sales policy. "MSD applied a cautious business policy, preferring lower sales but with better money recovery," said Gabriel Ghitescu, the company''s external affairs manager. MSD''s sales in the first six months were slightly higher than for the same period last year, since they benefited from the 90% subsidies for low-income pensioners that existed in the first quarter, though they were also hurt by the financial crisis in the second quarter, explained Ghitescu. He chose not to reveal any figures for turnover or actual growth.

Market data provided by PharmMis and cited by the company

show that total sales of pharmaceuticals in Romania for the first quarter reached 262.8 million dollars (215 million euros), of which 96.3 million dollars came from sales in March. ZF
