Tehnologica Radion, Delta ACM 93, Euro Construct Trading '98 and Eurovia Construct International, held by local businesspeople, became the most profitable constructors last year, due to the infrastructure rehabilitation and modernisation works conducted in Bucharest. While so far local firms have most of the time lost the auctions to foreign constructors, the next step for the four companies is motorway construction. The leader in terms of net profit in 2007, with 34.2 million euros, is Tehnologica Radion, held by businessman Theodor Berna, a hydrotechnics engineer, who started the business in 1997 and last year had 4,000 employees. "This year, there will be fewer contracts than last year, due to the upcoming elections, which prompted a decline in the number of auctions, but the company's turnover will rise by around 15-20%. The profit margin will, however, go down, as employee costs have increased," Theodor Berna, owner of Tehnologica Radion told ZF.
