Lafarge, the biggest manufacturer of construction materials worldwide, has continued to appoint French nationals as managers of Romanian entities, replacing Romanians who left to other subsidiaries of the French group. Sicim Bucharest, which manages the Constanta-based terminal that is responsible for exporting Lafarge Ciment (Lafarge Cement) products, has appointed Phillipe Platon as its manager for a two-year period. Phillipe Platon is also financial manager at Lafarge Ciment. The decision to change the manager was made shortly after the departure of the former manager, Marcel Cobuz, who became the new CEO of Lafarge in Indonesia. Using expats has been a common practice for the Lafarge group, with more than 30 managers having been expatriated since the arrival of the French in Romania, according to the latest available data. This spring saw the departure of Costin Borc, who left the position of chairman and CEO at Lafarge Agregate si Betoane (Lafarge Aggregates and Concrete), joining the central management team of the French group. He now holds the position of development and strategy manager of the cement division.
