The insurance market increased 41% in ROL in the first two months of the year; if the growth pace maintains close to this level all through the year the industry is likely to reach 33,000-34,000bn ROL or one billion dollars. "Judging by the revenues of the insured protection fund, the gross premiums collected by the insurance companies in the first two months of this year amounted to 7,000bn ROL, 41% more than in the same time last year, " said Mirela Antohi, Insurance Supervision Commissions' press officer. Propelled forward by the lending growth especially, the insurance market is estimated to have grown by 50% to some 25,000bn ROL (660 million euros, $750 million) in terms of premiums collected in 2003 and January's growth is likely due to the same reason in large part.
