Enel and Mittal, the only foreign companies left in the Cernavodă reactors project

Enel (Italy) and Arcelor Mittal Romania are the onlyremaining foreign partners of the Romanian state in the 4billion-euro project of reactors 3 and 4 in Cernavodă, after inless than a year's time, CEZ (the Czech Republic), RWE (Germany),GDF SUEZ (French-Belgian group) and Iberdrola (Spain) left theproject.

The two new Cernavodă reactors are the most ambitious investmentproject of the Romanian state in the last 20 years, which, despiteattracting the interest of the biggest European energy companies,is two years behind the original deadline.
"Today (January 24th i.e.) was the meeting of the companies thatsigned the Investors Agreement, which targets the building ofreactors 3 and 4 of the Nuclear Power Plant in Cernavodă. Three ofthe investors announced at the reunion they would withdraw from theproject for reasons having to do with each company's strategy. Thecompanies that are still part of the project, Nuclearelectrica,ArcelorMittal and Enel, have restated their resolve to continue theproject," said representatives of the Economy Ministry.
