Emperia Holding plans to enter Romanian market

12.11.2007, 19:56 13

Emperia Holding, one of Poland's largest retailers, which posted business worth over 600 million euros in the first half of the year, intends to enter the Romanian market of consumer goods retail and distribution. "We could enter the Romanian market either through acquisitions or greenfield projects. Currently, we are examining the market and will decide whether to enter the market at the end of the year or not," said representatives of Emperia Holding. The group (previously called Eldorado) currently holds several proximity stores and supermarket chains, as well as cash & carry stores, with various brands and companies that handle the distribution of consumer goods. In Poland, Emperia Holding is one of the few national retailers to withstand the competition of large international players such as Tesco, Carrefour and Metro. Two of its retail networks are developed under franchise, with over 500 stores. The Romanian market continues to be attractive to companies that invest in consumer goods retail, as indicated by players' expansion plans.
