Deichmann, the biggest footwear retailer in Europe, present on the local market with five stores, targets six new stores in the large cities in Romania as part of the brand's international expansion strategy. "By the end of this year, we will have 11 footwear stores throughout the country, including Bucharest," Ulrich Effing, head of corporate communications of the German company, told ZF. Last year, Deichmann entered the local market after it opened stores in Pitesti, Arad, Roman and Cluj-Napoca, both in malls and in independent locations. The retailer also opened a third store in the Shopping City department store, Sibiu, which takes up over 500 square metres. "We are interested in both independent locations, and in stores located within shopping centres. If we find good offers in city centres, i.e. areas that cover around 500 square metres, we will definitely open retail spaces there," added Effing. Currently, the local branch of the German footwear retailer has 90 employees, with their number set to increase in line with company expansion.
