Transactions on the Bucharest forex market have stabilised at around 34-36 billion euros over the last few months, a lot lower than the all-time high of 41 billion euros, reached in January. The total volume of transactions on the Bucharest forex market saw a slight decline in June, for the second month in a row, reaching 34.8 billion euros, according to ZF calculations based on the daily average announced by the NBR (National Bank of Romania). Since June last year, Bucharest forex transactions have not fallen below 30 billion euros, but only managed to exceed the 40 billion-mark in one month - January. "All financial markets have been less liquid lately. As a matter of fact, summer months are traditionally a time of slower business," said a dealer from a major bank. Average daily data announced by the NBR for June show that the volume of operations conducted by banks with their clients was slightly up in June against the preceding months. Foreign currency purchases from clients went up to 1.12 billion euros, compared with 1.07 billion euros in May. Foreign currency sales were also up, from 1.08 to 1.13 billion euros, based on a daily average.
