United Romanian Bereprod Breweries (URBB), a licensed producer of the Tuborg and Carlsberg brands on the Romanian market, forecasts 12-15% higher sales in the last two months of this year in comparison to the same period of 2004, following the launch of Tuborg Christmas Brew special holiday beer for the sixth consecutive year.

"Last year, sales of Tuborg Christmas Brew were 10% higher year-on-year, and this year we estimate similar growth," stated Catalin Ignat, a marketing manager with URBB.

According to the company''''s representatives, in the world ranking of Tuborg Christmas Brew sales, Romania ranks second, after Denmark.

Ignat also said that this year the company was banking on seeing sales grow by 20% from 2004. In line with the company''''s own data, URBB in the period January-March 2005 had a 9% share of the market.

Last year, URBB sales advanced by 11% in terms of volume, to 975,000 hectolitres, and by 18% in terms of value, to 52 million euros.

In line with the company''''s data, in the period 1997-2004, the sales volume surged four times.

URBB, in which the Danish Carlsberg owns a minority stake, has continued to invest in its brands - Tuborg, Carlsberg and Skol, and has this year brought the German beer Holsten onto the Romanian market, mainly counting on the positive image of German beers among consumers. The total sum of investments made by URBB so far stands at more than 85 million dollars.

In the first nine months of this year, the association Berarii Romaniei, which includes Brau Union, Interbrew, URBB and Ursus Breweries, logged 5.6% sales growth, increasing to 8.3 million hectolitres. dana.ciriperu@zf.ro
