Carrefour to open two more supermarkets next week

18.07.2008, 00:00 6

Carrefour will open two Carrefour Express supermarkets in Lugoj and Bistrita next week, which will take the network to nine such stores. The launch of the two stores is part of the programme to remodel the Artima supermarket network, which the French retailer took over in October 2007. The two supermarkets will reopen on July 23 and July 24, a company release reveals. Carrefour paid 55 million euros for Artima, thus entering its second market segment, after having developed on the hypermarket segment over the last few years and reached 15 hypermarkets. Overall investments in converting the 21 Artima stores in Carrefour Express supermarkets amount to approximately 6 million euros. The French retailer intends to remodel all the stores in the network using the same concept. It has already rebranded the Artima supermarkets in Resita (two stores), Zalau, Baia Mare, Drobeta-Turnu Severin and Sannicolau Mare (Timis county) and Petrosani. The sales of Carrefour in Romania went up by 40.3% in the first half from 362 million euros to 508 million euros driven by the expansion of the retailer.
