Carmen Adamescu, the majority shareholder in Rex hotel in the seaside resort of Mamaia, plans to invest in a five-star hotel in the centre of Bucharest and in another hotel in a mountain resort in Prahova Valley. "I'm interested in buying a hotel in the centre of Bucharest, with more than 30-40 rooms. It could be a 3-star hotel, although I intend to refurbish and bring the hotel up to a 5-star standard," stated Adamescu. She added she wanted to operate a similar investment in a mountain resort, such as Predeal or Poiana Brasov. Last year, Carmen Adamescu bought Rex five-star hotel in Mamaia from businessman Viorel Paunescu for around 10m euros. At the same time the Adamescu family, who holds the Nova Trade group and the Unirea store, plan to invest over 100m euros to raise a 30-storey multinational building in the courtyard of the shopping centre. The family also owns two office buildings in Bucharest and Dan Adamescu controls the majority stake in insurance firm Astra.
