Annual inflation down to 4.38% in June

The annual inflation rate fell slightly in June, to 4.38%, amidthe cheapening of food for the second consecutive month, withfigures meeting analysts' expectations.


Food prices fell by 0.1% per month because of a positiveseasonal effect and of the contraction of household demand, saysEugen Sinca, BCR analyst.
Monthly inflation was 0.16% in June, with the rise of consumerprices being primarily prompted by the increase in service fees, byalmost 0.6%, amid depreciation of the RON against the euro. Airtransport fares, as well as telephony fees rose by 1.58%.
Non-food commodities became 0.16% more expensive in June againstMay, amid rises in the price of fuels, books, and of magazines.
