Unita steps into the black in April

12.06.2007, 18:42 11

General insurance company Unita, a member of the Vienna Insurance Group, stepped into the black at the end of April, after it had posted losses worth 21.39 million RON (6 million euros) last year. The results for the first four months of 2007 exceeded the company's expectations, Unita was estimated to break even as late as at the end of the year. "In April this year, after the internal restructuring program was completed, Unita stepped into the black. The profit posted on April 30, 2007 stood at 1.9 million RON (0.6 million euros), and preliminary data for May confirmed this positive trend," Iulian Dumitru, chairman and general manager of Unita, told ZF. The insurer underwent a restructuring process in the spring of last year, following a decision by its main shareholder, the Vienna Insurance Group, which wanted Unita specialising as a general insurance company. In the wake of this decision, Unita transferred its life insurance portfolio to Omniasig Viata, another member of the Austrian group, Vienna Insurance, and took over non-agricultural insurance from Agras, leaving it to exclusively specialise in agricultural insurance.
