11.07.2007, 19:07 9

Unita, an insurance company controlled by the Austrian group Vienna Insurance, reported an approximately 108,000-euro (362,000-RON) profit in the first five months of this year, after it had seen losses worth 3.1 million euros (11.1-million RON) in the same period in 2006. The gross underwritten premiums handled by the company during this period stood at 60.5 million euros (nearly 203 million RON), a figure twice as high against the first five months of last year. "The biggest premium increases were seen for comprehensive insurance (CASCO) and auto liability insurance (RCA), as the Romanian market is not yet mature enough to allow for the development of non-auto products," explained Unita representatives. Comprehensive auto insurance saw the highest growth rate, with gross underwritten premiums reaching 21.6 million euros (72.3 million RON), three times as high as in the same period last year. Auto liability insurance and Green Card insurance account for the majority of products in the company's portfolio, with gross underwritten premiums generating revenues worth 28.1 million euros (94.3 million RON), taking into consideration that in the first five months of 2006, underwriting stood at 16.5 million euros (58.3 million RON).
