Clients of fixed and mobile telephony services will be able to retain their fixed or mobile telephone number even if they change their service provider, starting May next year, Dan Georgescu, president of the National Regulatory Authority for Communications and Information Technology (ANRCTI), told ZF in an interview. In addition to the number portability, which will only work between two fixed telephony networks and between two mobile telephony networks, ANRCTI is also planning on making other changes. One of them is that, as of next year, Romtelecom subscribers will have to dial the area code in order to access someone within the same network. Therefore, in order to be put through within the network, a Romtelecom client will have to dial the same type of number they would be dialling if they tried to reach a mobile phone number. These steps are seen by the ANRCTI as methods of stimulating competition on the local market.
