Swiss giant Sandoz, the second largest global player on the generic drugs market, has made a definite move by transferring production of 14 of the group's products to its Targu-Mures facilities, from Germany, India and Slovenia. The move was initiated in 2004 and will continue with the transferred production of another three products in the coming period. "The Sandoz group is looking to harmonise production. This is why we want to have just a few production facilities for important pharmaceutical molecules Romania is the ideal location for small-scale production. We have moved to Romania some of the products we used to manufacture in Germany, India and Slovenia," Iztok Sever, head of Sandoz Romania, told ZF. For example, the production of simvastatin, administered to control levels of cholesterol, was previously produced by Sandoz in 28 production facilities, but now will only be produced in a few locations. The products that Sandoz has relocated to Romania for production are primarily antibiotics such as erythromycin, doxycycline, tetracycline and Lekoklar.
