French retailers Carrefour and Bricostore could each open a store in Targoviste by the end of the year, according to local administration sources. Carrefour and Bricostore will be part of the first retail park in Targoviste, a city with some 100,000 inhabitants. According to the same sources, Media Galaxy has unveiled plans to open a branch in the shopping centre on the outskirts of the city. The developer of the project is waiting to receive a construction permit from Targoviste city hall. Praktiker, Bricostore's main competitor, has already started the construction of a store in Targoviste, on a plot of land, which was purchased by the company in the city. Another player on the market of construction material distribution, the Romanian-owned Dedeman network, has also announced it is to open a store in Targoviste this year. At present, the only modern retail chains in Targoviste are the discount stores, such as XXL Megadiscount, Plus Discount and MiniMax, and the discount hypermarket, Kaufland, which opened last year.
