Rekkers: I am surprised about the lack of consensus in Romania

Robert Rekkers, general manager of Banca Transilvania, one ofthe few banks with Romanian majority capital, voices surprise atthe lack of political consensus in Romania, and asks for a quicksolution for the political crisis. "The year 2010 will be a majorchallenge. I don't believe in miracles, I don't think tomorrow willbe better. I do want there to be a consensus over a better path forthe economy and the population. As a foreigner, I am surprised atthe lack of consensus in Romania," said the bank's official.Dutch-born Rekkers came to the helm of Banca Transilvania sevenyears ago, and is one of the most respected expats in the bankingsystem. "Things are improving everywhere around the world, thestock exchanges are on the rise, bank interests are going down,optimism is returning, depression is only a feature of the Romanianmarket. But I am optimistic and hope the political crisis will notlast very long, and that a rapid solution will be found," hespecified. Rekkers refrained from making forecasts on theprogression of interest and exchange rates in the coming period,saying, "we have to see what happens with the Government."
