New homes take concrete market to 350 million euros

25.02.2008, 19:12 7

Concrete consumption has grown by 15-20% on the average over the last few years and will reach about 350-370 million euros this year, because of investments in the residential sector and the shift of consumers' preference for concrete-mixing stations instead of buying cement packaged in bags. The concrete market, one of the most fragmented in the construction industry, is expected to witness continued development over the coming years, once the rate of construction and labour costs increase. More and more builders will use concrete-mixing stations that provide construction sites with a fast supply of concrete. "Concrete-mixing stations are the future of the constructions market, because the traditional method that uses cement sold in bags will no longer be profitable given the increase in labour costs. In developed countries, bagged cement accounts for only 10% of sales, while concrete-mixing stations account for the rest," says Mihai Rohan, general manager of Carpatcement Holding. At present, bagged cement accounts for 50-70% of cement sales.
