Marelvi posts 35m-euro turnover in 2006

13.03.2007, 20:30 17

Marelvi, a distributor of electrical home appliances owned by domestic investors, last year generated a turnover worth 35 million euros, up 15% from the 30 million euros posted during the previous year.
"The expansion of the brand portfolio, which now includes more than 25 well-known brands, the rising coverage in all counties nationally, along with the company's strengthened sales force, were all major factors behind a growth in turnover, although the market shrank by around 5%," stated Daniela Mihalescul, deputy manager with Marelvi.
For 2007, the company's lines of development are the strengthening of its position as a leading distributor for independent retailers of electronics and electrical home appliances in Romania.
"Given the current circumstances, it is hard to predict clearly the trends of the market; as a result Marelvi will focus on strengthening its current position," added Mihalescul.
Last year, it was the white goods that primarily contributed to the 15% increase in turnover, with these goods accounting for around 60% in the overall turnover. For 2007, the company plans to develop its portfolio within the high-tech sector by boosting imports and through the distribution of LCD TV sets, plasma TV sets and home cinema systems. "We are directing our business towards the demand for LCD TV sets and plasma TV sets, which have witnessed a spectacular growth amid decreased taxation and excises that began in 2007.
Meanwhile, we are focusing on the sale of built-in products, given the steadily rising demand and requests from a majority of our customers and furniture manufacturers," said Mihalescul, who estimates this segment is due to see a growth of up to 15% this year. Owing to its strategy of relying on customers with smaller commercial volumes instead of national retailers, Marelvi saw the number of partners advance by 5%.
The company owns seven warehouses nationally and delivers products to around 500 independent distributors of electrical home appliances.
For 2007, the company's expansion plans include the development of the logistics department, the modernisation of its vehicle fleet and warehouses and the training of personnel.
