Laptop prices have decreased by around 35% over the last four years, i.e. by around 1,900 RON, according to representatives of the research company IDC Romania. The company's statistics show that the average price of a laptop fell from 5,312 RON in 2003, to 3,370 RON in 2006. "The average price per unit has witnessed a decline, from approximately 1,600 dollars (excluding VAT) in 2003, to around 1,200 dollars (excluding VAT)," says Calin Mirea, an analyst with the research company IDC Romania. He believes that beyond the decline in the average price, laptops have become cheaper for Romanians for other reasons. "In fact, this price decline is even more apparent if we take into account the current wages, the economic growth and the increase of the RON against the dollar," says the IDC official. Last year, sales of laptops were the only sales seeing an upward trend on the local PC market, which also includes servers and desktop computers. Whereas sales of desktop computers and servers fell, the number of laptops sold increased by over 56% totalling almost 140,000 units.
