Kish, Rompetrol: 10% of our deliveries to corporate client fleets are blocked

Eric Kish, one of Dinu Patriciu's key people in the petroleum group Rompetrol, talks in an interview given to ZF about the effects of the crisis on fuel retail: loss of corporate clients, and the halting of fuel supply to 10% of vehicle fleets for non-payment of financial obligations. "Since the beginning of the year, we have lost and halted fuel supplies to clients for non-payment of financial obligations. We have around 10% of our supplies to corporate client fleets blocked and there is nothing we can do about it. How could we help them, as a company? Turn into a bank? If they are not up to date with their payments, we won't supply them with any more fuel," says the representative of Rompetrol, who is now at the end of his term on the retail segment, and will take over as vice-president for services and support functions as of April 1st. He leaves Rompetrol's retail segment with a 450-strong petroleum station network and an international presence. Rompetrol is the second largest player on the Romanian market in terms of volumes sold, with turnover worth 2.5 billion dollars last year and a 25% market share. According to Kish, a third of Rompetrol's sales are generated by the retail segment, a third by selling wholesale to large companies and the rest by small-size wholesale. Kish believes the market will fall by around 20% this year in terms of volume and does not see any possibility of improving the situation for the time being. "I estimate the market volume will be down by around 20% this year. Our sales decline in the first two months of the year was less than 20%," Kish adds.
