04.08.2005, 19:26 7

ING Asigurari de Viata has posted gross premiums subscribed for the first half of almost 52 million euros (189.7 million RON), up 46% on the same time last year. Calculated in RON, the growth comes to only 35% due to the euro''s depreciation against the RON. "We are contemplating development of additional distribution channels, I''m talking here mainly of independent brokers. We are also interested in introducing traditional protection products to the market because we feel there is a tremendous need for these types of products in Romania," said Bram Boon, ING Asigurari de Viata''s chief executive officer. The volume of premiums collected rose by more than 50% in euros over the period to a total of 52.5 million euros. The company reverted to a faster pace of underwriting this year, after having stagnated for the last two years. Its main competitors are AIG Life, Asirom, Omniasig Life, Aviva, Allianz-Tiriac, BCR Asigurari and Interamerican. ZF
