The Romanian state collects half the value of petrol and dieseloil sales, i.e. around 3.5 billion euros in 2010, the equivalent of9% of its revenues, based on estimates on the amount of fuels soldon the Romanian market. Around 20 million euros' worth of petroland diesel oil are sold daily on the Romanian market.
According to oil companies, around half the price paid by Romaniansat the pump is collected by the Romanian state through excises, VATor taxes such as the one cent per litre tax levied in order torecover historical debts of the former Compania Rom=n` de Petrol(Romanian Oil Company).
Statements from players in the oil sector are confirmed by Europeanstatistics, according to which on January 10th 2011 one litre ofpetrol cost 1.17 euros on average in Romania, with the tax-lessprice, i.e. the amount that goes into the pockets of oil companies, accounting for around 50% of direct or indirect taxes that oilcompanies pay to the Romanian state.
The same is true of diesel oil, where taxes account for around 46%,according to European statistics. The bulk of amounts collected bythe state from selling oil products are fetched by excises, whichaccount for 25-30% of the end price, depending on the type offuel.
