The Labour Code, introduced in 2003, will be modified so thatemployers should be able to lay off based on performance criteria,use temporary workforce more easily and cut employees' workschedule in parallel with slashing salaries, should the situationof the company require it, stipulates the draft law posted on theLabour Ministry's website.
The document, proposing almost 80 Labour Code amendments, ispractically the labour law modification draft forwarded by theForeign Investors' Council (FIC), experts consider.
FICs is an association including over 100 of the strongest privatecompanies, with 36bn-euro turnover in 2009, namely 15% in turnovergenerated by all the companies operating on the domestic market,amounting to 220bn euros, with Romanian-held companies holding afive times higher bigger weight.
FIC drew up a set of measures for Labour Code modification inAugust and September, which it presented to the Government a monthago, stating these were necessary to drive the economy out ofrecession after two years of crisis.
