Hot weather drives Napolact ice cream sales up 40%

Napolact company, part of Friesland Foods Romania group, the biggest player on the dairy products market, saw its ice cream sales soar by 40% in terms of value in the first five months of this year against the same period of 2005.
In terms of volume, sales increased by 35% in the above-mentioned period, according to company data. "This is a very good season for ice cream sales because of the high temperatures. We also saw our market share expand on the segment of ice cream, according to our estimates," stated Gerbrant de Boer, general manager with Friesland Foods Romania.
Napolact expects to derive sales worth above 11m euros this year on the ice cream segment it operates on with Napoca brand.
The company, which launched five new products under Napoca brand this year, registered ice cream sales worth some 8.5m euros in 2006, up around 20% against the previous period.
"At present, we produce ice cream at full capacity and we are considering raising our capacity. Ice cream consumption is witnessing significant growth rates each year, which proves the market's high potential. (...)," Gerbrant de Boer also said. Napolact estimates it will further post double-digit growth in terms of sales this year, after the company's turnover last year went beyond 38m euros. Beside ice cream, Napolact's portfolio also includes cheese, fresh dairy products under Cedra, Napolact or Napoca brands. The company, headquartered in Cluj county, holds 3 production facilities in Dej, Huedin and Taga, in the same county. Napolact also owns 5 stores in Cluj-Napoca and another two in Dej and Huedin, as well as two wholesale warehouses in Cluj-Napoca and Bucharest. Friesland Romania also holds Milli brand, with sales worth above 40m euros last year, according to the data De Boer previously provided. The dairy products market last year exceeded 800m euros, being expected to go beyond the 1bn-euro mark this year.
