"At present, the value of auto parts purchased by GM from Romania stands at 170m dollars (125.2m euros). We want this value to increase to 500m dollars (368.4m euros) within the next two or three years," Julie Hamp, vice-president of communications of General Motors Europe, told ZF. At present, according to GM representatives, the US carmaker acquires from Romania cables from Delphi Packard, lighting systems from Elba and steering wheels from Takata. A GM team visited Romania this month to gain further insight into domestic suppliers and the Romanian market. GM is also considering building a plant near Cluj for assembling Opel vehicles. In addition, sources from the car industry have told Mediafax, that the decision on the construction of Romanian plant will be made in October or November.
