24.09.2007, 19:22 11

GLS courier company, which registered a business worth 1.6 billion euros last year and launched its Romanian operations in August, targets a 4% share of the domestic market within the next three years. GLS, which is headquartered in Amsterdam, conducts the bulk of its operations in Western Europe, and has expanded onto Central and Eastern European markets, such as Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic over the last few years. "We entered the Central and Eastern European markets in order to meet the growing demand. In Romania, the courier segment registered a positive development, and we want to be present locally for our clients here, as well as for those in Europe. Our operations in Romania are part of our network expansion," said company representatives. GLS entered the Romanian market through a 5 million-euro investment for the acquisition of properties in Sibiu and other parts of the country and for the purchase of equipment.
