Foreigners buy shares worth 143m euros

23.02.2006, 21:07 6

Acquisitions by foreign investors on the capital market hit a record level of 143.2 million euros (521.9 million RON) in January, but sales carried out by foreigners also stood at one of the highest levels in the last few years, just five million euros below the previous maximum level set in September last year. The record level hit by acquisitions was largely due to the transactions amounting to 37 million euros conducted as part of the mandatory tender offer put forward by the Czechs at Zentiva for a 49% stake in Sicomed. These transfers left aside, acquisitions of foreign investors stood at 20 million euros less than the maximum level seen in September 2005. Last month, the amounts of money invested on the capital market by foreign investors totalled 82.49 million euros, exceeding capital outflows by 13.18 million euros. The amounts leaving the market hit an all time high in RON, but in euros they were 14.3 million euros lower than last September''s record. ZF
