09.12.2004, 00:00 8

Farmec Cluj, Romania's largest domestic cosmetics producer, expects this year's turnover to grow by 20%, compared with last year's figure of 15 million euros, to reach around 18 million euros.

"The most dynamic product categories have been lotions and creams, which have grown 10% in quantity and 15% in terms of value over last year. Next best were deodorants and home care products," said Manuela Crisan, marketing manager for Farmec Cluj.

In the creams and lotions category, Farmec owns the Gerovital Plant, Ana Aslan, Aslavital, Farmec and Doina brands, and its deodorants include Obsesie, Athos and You & Me. In terms of home care products, Farmec has the Nufar and Triumf brands.

Last year, the company made investments of around 20 billion ROL (500,000 euros), mainly in logistics.

"In 2004, Farmec invested around 20 billion ROL in the development of its own parking area for the distribution of Farmec products through its 14 offices. At the same time, investment was also made in two artificial grass areas for company employees and the public," added Crisan.

Estimated at 200 million euros a year, the Romanian cosmetics market is dominated by foreign brands, with the international consumer goods groups Unilever, Procter & Gamble, Beiersdorf and Henkel jointly controlling around 70% of the entire Romanian market, none of which, however, having invested in a Romanian factory.
