E.ON Gaz Distributie, the distribution arm formed in the wake of separation of the gas supply division from the gas distribution division of the former Distrigaz Nord, posted net profit worth 65 million RON (19.5 million euros) last year, a 25% decline on the previous year, and turnover worth 1.53 billion RON (450 million euros), down 38% against 2006, according to Mediafax news agency. The company also announced cuts in the number of employees by 31%, from 7,950 people currently, to 5,500 people by 2010 after it implemented a restructuring programme based on voluntary resignations, which is going to be discussed with the trade unions. "A more efficient personnel structure is required in order to meet market challenges and to remain competitive," said E.ON Gaz Distributie representatives. According to them, it is precisely the separation costs, after July 1st, 2007, which had a negative impact on the main financial indicators.
