The Alba county-based Elit and Mercado charcuterie manufacturers, owned by businessman Dorin Mateiu, posted a cumulated 93.6 million-euro turnover last year and a 12.2 million-euro net profit, indicating a 16% increase against results witnessed in 2005. "Both turnover and profit of the two companies saw a 16% rise in 2006 against results posted the previous year," stated Dorin Mateiu, the majority shareholder of both firms. Elit specialises in charcuterie production and owns two production facilities in Cugir and Alba-Iulia, Alba county, whereas Mercado handles the production of the raw material for the meat industry, as well as distribution. The two companies posted a cumulated 68.9 million-euro turnover and a cumulated net profit worth 8.8 million euros, according to data provided by company representatives. Mateiu estimates a 20% rise in its financial results for 2007, as a result of the expansion of the production capacity.
