Direct exports, revenue booster

09.05.2003, 00:00 14

Timisoara-based ModaTim apparel company estimates to post 9.5 million euro turnover in 2003, up 13% from 2002. The company's 2002 turnover amounted to 8.4 million euros, 20.7% higher than in the previous year. "This year's and last year's turnover growth is due to the development of the direct export. This means clients order a product based on a drawing, while we look for the raw material and manufacture the item in question and bill the client for the entire product, not just for the actual labour cost, as in the lohn system. This generates higher added value," general manager Ovidiu Sandor said. Another revenue booster this year is the 20% increase in the productive capacity. "We are planning on building a new productive floor, following a 500,000 euro investment born from our profit," Sandor said. Out of the more than 400,000 products shipped by ModaTim every year, 25% are manufactured under the lohn system and primarily aimed at clients from Germany and Belgium. Direct export accounts for 70% of the total output, with England and Germany as the main outlets in this regard. The remaining 5% output is sold as Chic & Cher and Connection brands in Romania.
