21.10.2005, 21:03 10

Delta Distribution, an importer of ceramic tiles, is estimating a 30% growth in turnover this year to a level of 23 million euros. "In May, we launched a new brand, Delta Design, through which we expanded our current store network and opened a showroom in Bucharest," says Simona Bonea, communications manager with Delta Distribution.

The company turned over close to 15 million euros in the first half of the year, 22% up on the corresponding period last year.

The ceramic tiles market - put by company representatives at 160 million euros - has this year witnessed growth of around 10%. The main competitors on this market are Lasselsberger, an Austrian firm which acquired Sanex Cluj and Zalakeramia (Hungary), the owner of the majority stake in Cesarom Bucharest.

According to the company''s representatives, the store rebranding process cost some 200,000 euros.

Ceramic tiles, together with the adhesives and putty necessary for fitting, account for close to 80% of Delta Distribution''s total turnover. Delta also imports sanitary ware, bathroom furnishings and pool systems.

Delta Distribution currently accounts for 15% of the total ceramic tiles market and around 30% of the import market, half the total market, data released by the company show.

The ceramic tiles market has been suffocated over the last two years by imports from Spain. Last year, imports amounted to about 10 million square metres, and are set to climb to 13 million square metres this year.

Strong international players operate in this field, including Villeroy & Boch on the sanitary ware market, while Lasselsberger dominates the ceramic tiles market. RomanCeram, a producer of sanitary ware and ceramic tiles for ovens, controls 35% of the total sanitary ware market, which has been put at 35 million euros this year.

Lasselsberger this year announced a 12% growth in sales, above the average growth pace of the market. Last year, the Austrian company acquired Sanex Cluj-Napoca, in a deal worth 14-15 million dollars.

Following this move, in the same year, the company also managed to take control of the Hungarian producer Zalakeramia, the owner of Cesarom Bucharest. Subsequently, Lasselsberger also took over the ceramic tiles unit of Mondial Lugoj, giving up the sanitary ware portfolio it had taken over from Sanex in the process. catalin.lupoaie@zf.ro
