Cotnari sees better-educated consumers

28.02.2005, 00:00 10

Winemaker Cotnari saw its sales surge almost 45%, to 13 million euros last year, and forecasts moderate growth, by 10%, for this year, in parallel with the launch of new products. "From our point of view, the market is doing better, with a tendency toward consumption of DOC (controlled original name), doubled by a better education of consumers," says Laurentiu Anghel, Cotnari marketing director. According to Anghel, as the market still sees counterfeit and poor quality wines, Cotnari has been applying, for the past three years, a tridimensional hologram on its labels. In the next few weeks, Cotnari will launch a wine range mainly destined to HoReCa chain- "Selectie de vinuri albe" (Selection of White Wines), to comprise a Chateau Cotnari (dry), Blanc Cotnari (semidry), Grasa de Cotnari 2000 (sweet) and Busuioaca de Moldova (sweet). The average price of a bottle of Cotnari revolves around 2-2.2 euros (70,000-80,000 ROL). ZF
