Domestic courier company Cargus, which was acquired this year by international player DHL, posted turnover worth 13.8 million euros (49.7 million RON) in the first half of the year, up 23% against the same time last year. Although deliveries to Bucharest continue to account for the bulk of services, the Western part of Romania has seen a major rise this year. "We ship 30% of our parcels to Transylvania, with shipments to this region up by 17.2% against the first half of last year. However, the highest rise was witnessed by Bucharest shipments," said the Cargus representatives, who specified that 50.5% of all parcel collections were conducted in Bucharest. Before being taken over by DHL, Cargus budgeted a 50% turnover increase for this year, to around 45 million euros. Therefore, the growth rate was below the initial forecast. The two companies will together post over 80 million euros in turnover this year, and have set their first joint budget for a 30% rise in 2009.
