British Airways: 66% traffic increase on Bucharest- London flights

10.01.2008, 18:36 11

Air operator British Airways, which operates Bucharest-London flights, registered a 66% increase in traffic to and from Romania over the last 12 months, according to Emil Delibshev, commercial manager of British Airways for Romania and Bulgaria. The rise was stimulated by the lifting of visas to travel to the UK, and company representatives expected a positive trend on the leisure travel segment as early as the beginning of 2007. British Airways introduced a second daily flight from Bucharest to London, and signed an agreement with Hungarian operator Malev at the beginning of 2007, for Timisoara-London and Targu-Mures-London flights, with a stop-over in Budapest. British Airways is among the few foreign operators who have not introduced flights from other Romanian cities, as well. Among the airlines with the most extensive networks in Romania are Lufthansa (which operates flights from Bucharest, Timisoara, Sibiu), Malev (which flies to Budapest from Bucharest, Timisoara, Constanta, Cluj and Targu-Mures) and Austrian Airlines (which has flights from Bucharest, Timisoara, Cluj, Sibiu and Iasi).
