Brainconf profits reach 5% of turnover

12.05.2005, 20:03 10

Clothing producer Braiconf Braila has reported first-quarter net profits of close to 7.2 billion ROL (0.2 million euros), with gross profits of 8.3 billion ROL (230,000 euros).

"The results for the first quarter are positive and show the efficiency of the company''s activities.

"The profits are encouraging, especially since the first quarter is not normally important in our company''s activity, being a period in which the spring-summer programme is drawn up and production is prepared for the next period," said Anica Nisioi, general manager of Brainconf.

Brainconf generated a first-quarter turnover of 126.5 billion ROL (3.5 million euros), with operational revenues in excess of 138 billion ROL (3.8 million euros).

Gross operating income reached 10.5 billion ROL (290,000 euros), pushed down by the losses of 2.2 billion ROL (61,000 euros).

The company felt the negative effects of the rising utility costs (electricity and fuel), as well as of the growing strength of the local currency against both the euro and the dollar since a large proportion of company''s production goes to export.

The company''s main objectives for the first quarter were covering production capacities through contracts and expanding its stores network.

The first three months of the year saw Braiconf open three new stores - in Cluj-Napoca, Ploiesti and Bucuresti.

The company hopes to raise this number to 20 by the end of the year. andrei.chirileasa@zf.ro
