Austrian marketing machine attracts over 180,000 Romanians in Tirol or Salzburg resorts

More than 200,000 Romanians had travelledto Austria on holiday or for business since the start of the yearuntil September, 5.4% fewer than in the same period of last year,according to the data provided by Austria's National TouristOffice.

"Vienna was still the Austrian destination visited by thehighest number of Romanians since the beginning of the year. Still,against the January-September 2009 period, the number of Romaniansarriving in Vienna dropped by 10.8% this year," stated GabrieleLenger, marketing manager in Romania with Austria's NationalTourist Office.
Lenger added that almost 644,000 was the number of nights spentoverall by the Romanians who were accommodated in Austrian cities'hotels and pensions in the first nine months of the year, meaningRomanians on average spend three nights in Austrian hotels orpensions. For the winter season, the Austrian officials expectRomanians to buy more travel packages starting January 2011, whenholidays get cheaper than those in the Christmas or New Year's Eveperiods.
Almost 185,000 Romanians visited Austrian mountain resorts lastyear, with most of them choosing Tirol and Salzburg, according toZF calculations.
