09.08.2005, 19:47 8

Insurance-reinsurance company Asitrans Bucharest collected more than 15.322 million RON (4.45 million euros) in gross premiums in the first half of 2005, from a total underwriting 15.325 million RON. Revenues from premiums rose by 36%, compared with the corresponding period last year, when they amounted to 11.27 million RON (2.8 million euros), whilst premiums underwritten only increased by 8.1%. Gross premiums underwritten are those premiums registered in the contract, which are to be collected. Collection can be done in instalments. Company officials say the growth can be explained by the development of new products and a more aggressive marketing strategy. The company made gross profits in the first six months of the year of 933,000 RON (270,000 euros). Auto liability insurance remained the insurer''s top-selling insurance product, representing 59.78% of the total. Somewhat further behind come comprehensive insurance policies for land vehicles, with gross premiums subscribed of 1.94 million RON (563,000 euros) and 12.66% of the total (up 4.36% on the first half of 2004).
