35m-euro turnover and 350,000 passengers for Blue Air

24.03.2006, 00:00 7

Blue Air, the low-cost airline, expects 350,000 passengers and turnover worth 35 million euros this year, after exceeding the estimations projected for the level of turnover in 2005 by 33%.

"For 2005, we had forecast turnover worth 18 million euros, but the yearend brought us turnover worth more than 24 million euros. For 2006, we project a growth of 46%," stated Gheorghe Racaru, Blue Air general manager.

Relying on the upward trend of the Romanian airline market over the past two years, Blue Air expects the number of passengers to advance by 75%. "We estimate we will carry more than 350,000 passengers in 2006," says Racaru. Racaru is banking on the potential of other cities as the airport in Arad is the only airport outside Bucharest the company operates from.

"At this moment, we can say we have a solid base in Bucharest, so that we may start considering expanding in other cities. In our opinion, these have a very high potential because many persons living there go to work abroad.

At the same time, there are many young people wanting to travel at low costs, and this is valid not only in cities, but in any organisation wanting to minimise transportation expenses so that more money can be invested in development". lavinia.marin@zf.ro
