1.3bn-euro foreign investments in 7 months

The value of foreign investments in form of contributions to the share capital of firms registered in Romania surged by over 90% in the first seven months of the year against the same period last year, to 1.32bn euros, according to the data provided by the National Office of the Trade Registry (ONRC). Between January and July 2006, this type of investments totalled 691.9m euros. Foreign investments as contributions to the capital of firms of Romania in July reached 185.4m euros, 2.35 times more than the value reported in the similar month of 2006. Contributions to the capital of foreign-held firms are taken into account when gauging direct foreign investments. Loans granted by foreign firms to Romanian subsidiaries and companies' reinvested profit are also taken into account. Foreign direct investments in the first six months amounted to around 3bn euros, down around 8% compared with 3.2 billion euros in the same period in 2006.
